EDUCATIONAL

OLIVEHILL Architect were appointed to design and document a new 800 learner High School in Leokeng, North West Province. The Project consists of 20 classrooms, admin building and a feeding scheme kitchen.

OLIVEHILL Architects were appointed to design and document a new classroom wing for the Rockland Primary School in Carletonville. The new development consisted of 4 new classrooms adjacent to existing buildings,

OLIVEHILL Architects were appointed to design document and contract manage several additions and alterations at the Stephanus Roos Primary School. The Project consisted of a large addition to the existing pavilion, new shade shelters around the main track and field, as well as the netball fields. OLIVEHILL also designed a new staircase on the one three storey block of classrooms and oversaw remedial work to the existing 2 storey block of classrooms.

OLIVEHILL Architects were asked to design a container based hockey clubhouse for the Bergsig Akademie/Academy, including a tuck shop, male and female ablutions and a viewing deck.

OLIVEHILL Architects were successfully appointed as part of a consortium of professionals to design and oversee the construction of the new 11500m², 2000 learner Waterkloof Hills Primary and Secondary schools with a shared hall and sports fields.

OLIVEHILL Architects were appointed to design a new sports hall on the Bergsig Akademie/Academy grounds that has the dual function of also acting as a catalyst for integration of the Afrikaans and English branches of the School. The Hall is place between the two sections of the school to form a central gathering place. The hall can also host exams and indoor sport facilities.

OLIVEHILL Architects were successfully appointed as part of a tender process to design and act as principal agent for the new offices of the South African Environmental Observation Network (SAEON) in an existing house in Colbyn Pretoria. The existing house is older than 60 years and falls under the protection of the Heritage Resource Act. The project programmed includes: Offices for all the SAEON Staff including all facilities (ablutions kitchens etc.) Meeting rooms and conference rooms As the project is for SAEON which forms Part of the (National Research Foundation) the emphasis of the project is on overall sustainability.

OLIVEHILL Architects were successfully appointed to design and act as principal agent for the new offices of ATC Delport in an existing house in Rustenburg. The existing house is older than 60 years and falls under the protection of the Heritage Resource Act. The owner grew up in the house and wanted to turn it into his new office. OLIVEHILL Architects through our consultative design process modernized and converted the house into office while maintaining certain aspects of the original house to act as reference and reminder for the owner of the origin and history of the building. The original floor plan layout was kept almost the same and certain façade elements were kept in place, such as the curved corner wall and the round portal windows of the typical 1950’s house. We however drastically changed the roof structure to simplify the lines and forms of the building. The original parquet flooring was also removed and reused in the new office. Skylights bring light into office spaces that were originally very dark in the house. The building is well insulated to guard against the hot Rustenburg climate. The project was successfully completed in August 2017.

 OLIVEHILL Architects were successfully appointed to design the branding for a new restaurant in Rustenburg mid-city called Texas BBQ. The restaurant concept is based on the Smoke House restaurants as originally found in mid to Southern United States. OLIVEHILL Architects designed the branding and look and feel of the restaurant, in conjunction with the client, within the milieu of the Smoke House tradition. The concept makes provision for the restaurant to expand in the future in to a chain or franchise with a common brand identity, but allowing for individual site specific variations in the branding for different restaurant locations.

OLIVEHILL Architects were appointed to design and document the new office building for GEONET Financial Service on a previous occupied Lyttleton Manor site. The Project consisted of a new double storey building with various office and board room facilities, new parking shelters for employees and guests.

OLIVEHILL Architects were successfully appointed to design and act as principal agent for the new 850m² first phase Mandela Mining Precinct Test Mine. The facility is to be used as a testing facility for mining equipment and machinery. The Test Mine consists of the following elements and facilities: Security and induction centre (welcome centre), a canteen and outside seating area, ablutions, break away rooms, premanufactured office units, a parking lot and a gate house towards the underground mine.

 Floris van der Walt Designed the new PIKITUP Depot Complex in Orange Farm, Johannesburg for the waste management company of the City of Joburg, PIKITUP, while working for Strategic Environmental Focus (SEF). The project consisted of five separate parts of which only the first three were erected. These were a security gatehouse, Office building housing 25 administrative and management staff, and an ablutions complex for male and female workers. The two section still to be erected consisted of an assembly hall for staff as well as storage facilities. The office building was design around a central courtyard with an emphasis on energy efficiency of the building. As the building would mainly be used during the day the design concentrated on the provision of natural daylight. Water saving measures such as rain water harvesting was also considered and provided for. The ablution complex caters for approximately 12 staff members and makes use of energy efficient heat pump system to produce the required hot water.

OLIVEHILL Architects were appointed by Vicki Harris Architects to assist with the documentation and specification of the new 1200m² Kanana multi-purpose sports hall, in Kanana, Rustenburg.

OLIVEHILL Architects as part of a JV with LDM Quantity Surveyors was appointed by the City of Johannesburg for the design of Taxi Rank Canopies and taxi rank layout for the existing Sunninghill Taxi Rank next to Witkoppen Road, and the Diepkloof Taxi Rank. The design was based on an approved concept provided by the City Of Johannesburg.

Floris van der Walt Designed the new Motsu Park Venue Building (Wedding Park) in Thembisa, Ekurhuleni for the Ekurhuleni Local Municipality while working for Strategic Environmental Focus (SEF). The project consisted of a venue building with catering kitchen and ablutions to seat 150 people within the bounds of the newly constructed Motsu Park.

OLIVEHILL Architects were appointed by Waterkroon Eiendomme to Design adn document the new Casa Valde Clubhouse. The Clubhouse is a gathering space for the Casa Valde Retirement Village in Rustenburg in the North West Province. The basic programme of the Clubhouse consist of administrative offices, doctors room / clinic, tuck shop, large hall / gathering space with outside spaces, ablution facilities, catering kitchen and dining area, as well as library / sitting room and workshop garage area. The Clubhouse is currently under construction and will sit in a landscaped park area in the Centre of the Casa Valde development.

OLIVEHILL Architects was appointed by Waterkroon Eiendomme (Pty) Ltd to design a group housing scheme in Grimbeek Park, Potchefstroom. The project consist of the design of the site layout as well as the gatehouse and all the units. The total housing scheme will consist of: 3 different types of Full title units varying in size from 130m≤ to 170m≤. The units are all three bedroom with single or double garages. 2 different types of Sectional Title units varying in size from 80m≤ to 128m≤. All the units are three bedroom with a carport.

OLIVEHILL Architects was appointed by Waterkroon Eiendomme (Pty) Ltd to design and document as well as plan the overall layout of the third phase of the Casa Valde Retirement village in Rustenburg. The project consisted of: The Design of the development layout including roads and property positions, design and documentation of 5 types of housing units totaling 64 Units.

OLIVEHILL Architects was appointed by Waterkroon Eiendomme (Pty) Ltd to design a group housing scheme in Rustenburg. The project consisted of: The Design of the development layout including roads and property positions, a security gatehouse, 27 sectional title units, and 36 full title units. The Full title units consisted of 5 different types of 3 bedroom single storey double garage units of between 130m²and 175m². The Sectional Title units are 128m² three bedroom double storey units with a single garage.

The project consisted of new roads and services, a new gate house with refuse facility, 43 stack unit buildings (4 units each) and a single one floor unit, all with new shaded parking areas.

The house is designed to complement the lifestyle of the owner, while fitting into the bushveld setting of the estate. The addition of a green roof to this single storey house insured that the client could appreciate the lake view and sunset.

OLIVEHILL Architects was appointed to design this contemporary styled house on the top of the mountain in a eco estate in Rustenburg. The clean lines of this design is in contrast to the bushveld setting of the estate. The house is optimized to fully exploit the amazing views from the house across the surrounding natural area. The layout is a simple H form with all living rooms and bedroom orientated towards the views. The glass walls bring the view inside the rooms and the double volume central part of the house echoes the expansive views visible from everywhere in the house.

OLIVEHILL Architects were successfully appointed as a sub-consultant by Zitholele Consulting as professional architects for the refurbishment of the 40 bed Christiana hospital.

OLIVEHILL Architects were appointed by X-Health to Design and document the new 40 Bed Rustenburg Rehabilitation and Psychiatric hospital.

OLIVEHILL Architects were successfully appointed to design and contract manage new medical suites for medical professionals next to the Medicare Private Hospital in Rustenburg. The project consists of single and double story office space of approximately 650m². The total building size is approximately 800m². The project is a brick structure with well insulated sheet metal roofs and energy efficient lighting and cooling solutions. The project also looks at long term sustainability through the minimization of electrical consumption and responsible design solutions such as rainwater and grey water harvesting.

Concepts

OLIVEHILL Architects were requested to conceptualize a multi-purpose community hall for the Chaneng Community North of Rustenburg

OLIVEHILL Architects entered the Kurandza Learning Centre for Girls international design competition. The competition was for the design of a learning center for girls in the Kurandza region of Mozambique, relying heavily on local knowledge and construction techniques.

OLIVEHILL Architects entered the International Tiny House Competition. The competition brief asked for the design of a contemporary mobile tiny house that could assist in relieving the housing problem in city and rural areas.

OLIVEHILL Architects were asked to conceptualize additions and alterations to an existing commercial property in the Rustenburg CBD. The new additions were mostly for storage, but needed to reflect the contemporary and forward looking ideals of the commercial tenant.

OLIVEHILL Architects were approached by a client to design a masterplan and first phase development for a modern equestrian estate / wedding venue in Mooiplaats, North East of Pretoria, unfortunately the project was not realized

OLIVEHILL Architects were successfully appointed to design and contract manage a new alternative healing Centre/ medical offices in Rustenburg. The project would have been a multi phased development yielding approximate 200m² high spec offices when fully implemented. The project consisted of ‘n hybrid steel and concrete structure with well insulated sheet metal facades and energy efficient lighting and cooling solutions. The project would also eventually have been mostly self-sustaining through responsible design solutions such as rainwater and grey water harvesting as well as the use of solar power for electricity production. The project was canceled due to the uncertain economic situation in the county and especially in Rustenburg, and has not been realized.

OLIVEHILL Architects was approached by a developer to design a sustainable village in the old Transvaal Architectural idiom on a game farm outside of Bela-Bela (Warmbaths). The development consisted of 150m≤ to 200m≤ housing units concentrated around a horseshoe shaped green area in the middle of a bushveld game farm. The units are all self-sufficient where water and electricity is concerned. To save on construction wastage and to minimize the damage caused by construction operations, it was decided to make use of Light steel frame construction method to construct the units. The light steel frame buildings would have been finished according to the required style.

OLIVEHILL Architects was approached by a developer to design a retirement village with single storey houses on a steep slope on a hill in Rustenburg. Our resultant concept made use of stacked and stepped single storey units, where the roof of the bottom unit became the terrace are of the unit above it.
